What do pioneering women of the film industry, girls dangling from skyscrapers, dizzy damsels, and female comedy teams all have in common? Simple: the ladies of slapstick comedy are back for another round at That Slapstick Show! This follow-up to 2015's highly successful Ladies Night program serves up another collection of rare silent and early sound comedies focusing on womens' involvement in film comedy with some of the selections being publicly shown for the first time in 100 years.
Highlights include the woman who broke barriers for all (past and present) female comics and the star of the show, Mabel Normand. We'll also feature lesser-known and forgotten comediennes including Alice Mann; Al Christie superstar, Dorothy Devore; and early screwball funny gal, Leatrice Joy. The sound era will focus on Hal Roach's popular female comedy team, consisting of Zasu Pitts and the legendary and fan favorite Thelma Todd. Join us for a very special evening as That Slapstick Show pays tribute to some of the funniest gals that ever graced the silver screen from the 1910s through the early 1930s.
