2015 Hot Time in the Old City Residency for Projects in Development

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - Deadline April 24th, 2015

Standard Toykraft is currently seeking applicants for our 2015 Hot Time in the Old City residency for projects in development.

STK's Mission is to provide access to artists by offering cheap rehearsal and theater space in an expensive city.  We strive to build a community for visual artists, musicians and performance groups by providing low-rate studio spaces and a barter system for artists and groups in need of space but have little means. We live in a city where we see more and more art spaces being shut down and replaced with expensive housing projects.  We do our best to serve as an antidote in these times.

STK has always been supportive to the puppet community and their various endeavors. To that end we recently developed a residency program for puppet theater groups and individual artists.

We define a “project in development” as a piece that has not been previously shown or have been developed in other residency programs. (i.e. The Puppet lab, HERE, The O’Neil etc.)  Rather we are looking for new and innovative work that need time and space to grow.

Residents will be provided with a subsidized theater space in the month of July for projects in development.  There you will have full and exclusive access to our theater and equipment.  Residents are required to have one or more presentations at the end of the July.  Presentations will take place during July 31st-August 8th.

Standard Toykraft will provide lighting and sound tech support as well as a board operator during the final presentation.  We will also provide promotional support and press.  If you are interested in becoming an applicant please send:

  • A letter stating why you need the residency at this time.
  • A full project description.
  • A CV of you and the members of your group.
  • Conceptual drawings, a script, puppets in development or treatment of the piece you are submitting.
  • Examples of past work. (Photos, press, a video link(s)  etc.)
  • What do you intend to do with your piece after the residency.

Please send all submission materials to Daniel Patrick Fay, Artistic Director of Standard Toykraft at with “Residency” in the subject line.  All materials must be submitted by April 24th, 2015.  Projects will be chosen by a selection committee of artists and will be announce on May 8th.
